Why Finland ?

Finland has become a popular destination for school leaders across the World, including India. There is a lot we can learn from a school education system that has consistently performed well in standardized international assessments such as PISA. The aim is not to replicate the system in India, because that may not be possible. The real aim for studying an education system is to identify the aspects of their foundations, thoughts, strategies, and actions that can be adopted and adapted to improve school education in India.

Objective

Intensive and Comprehensive Learning Program

The primary objective of the learning expedition is to create an Indiacentric Implementation plan of adaptable strengths of the Finnish Education System.

 

The 30-member delegation will study, observe, and discuss various aspects of the Finnish Education System and jointly prepare the implementation plan which will be circulated to all the 300+ members of ICSL.

School In Action

Principal's Presentation [30 mins]

School Observation [30 mins]

Take a tour of the school to observe the environment and culture of the school. This may involve observing:

  • The space and infrastructure

  • Classrooms, labs, music rooms, gym, corridors, play areas

  • Body language of students as they interact with peers or teachers

Student Interaction [30 mins]

2 groups of 7 delegates each will interact with 5-6 students to understand their perspective on the environment and culture of their school. Specifically, we are seeking their perspectives on aspects covered in the presentation or observed during the school tour.

Teacher Interaction [30 mins]

2 groups of 7 delegates each will Interact with 2-3 teachers to understand their perspective on the environment and culture of the school. Specifically, we are seeking their perspectives on aspects covered in the presentation or observed during the school tour.

  • The process followed by schools to customize the curriculum to meet the needs of the municipality and their students.

  • Roles of various stakeholders in designing the school curriculum.

  • The process of curating or creating the content for various subjects.

Curriculum and Content in Finnish Schools

  • Physical and emotional safety and security

  • Learning culture: curiosity, creativity, communication, etc.

  • Social and moral values

  • Interventions for helping students deal with anxiety, bullying,pregnancies, rapes, violence

Program Wrap-up and India Implementation Plan

Learnings and Experiences of the Day (Everyday Session)

This is by far the most crucial segment of the learning expedition. During this session, we will analyze and synthesize our learning and experiences to create an actionable implementation plan for our schools.

 

The session flow will be as follows:

 

  • Group level discussions to identify 3-4 actionable points in each of the 5 leadership domains; [60 mins]

  • Group presentations [60 mins]

  • Discussions and Deliberations [60 mins]·

  • Final list of action points with outline of implementation plan [60 mins]

The objective of this session is to:

  • Discuss the learnings from each session

  • Identify adaptable aspects for our schools

  • Identify the aspects for which we need to seek evidence during school visits

  • Identify the aspects for which we need to study the school level implementation, challenges, and solutions

The session will consist of 4 parts:

  • Part 1: Group level analysis [30 mins]

  • Part 2: Group presentations [40 mins]

  • Part 3: Synthesis [30 mins]

  • Part 4: Preparation for school visits [20 mins]

Heureka Science Center

“Science in action” is the best way to describe HSC. It is a collection of scientific installations, activities, and experiments that will bring out the scientific temper in every individual irrespective of their age. You can record videos or take photos to capture ideas that you may want to implement in your school.

FEES

The learning expedition is been organised on a no-profit no-loss basis. The total expense of the delegation is distributed among all delegates.

Program Fee of Rs. 1,80,000 includes:

  • Delhi-Helsinki-Delhi Economy Class Air Ticket

  • Double Occupancy Accommodation at Holiday Inn, Vantaa, Helsinki [To upgrade to single occupancy, add Rs. 12000]

  • Local Transport, City Tour, All Meals

  • Expert Fees, School Visit Fees

  • Heureka Visit Fee

  • Venue Rentals for Round Tables

The fee does not include Visa fee.

Pay 25% advance at the time of registration

Pay 75% balance by 30th April 2020
