Why Should School Leaders Have A Personal Profile?

ICSL

G. Balasubramanian | Chairperson, Board of Advisors, ICSL | Editor-in-Chief, The Progressive School

“Although our view of the most sublime things is limited and weak, it is a great pleasure to catch even a glimpse of them” says Thomas Aquinas.

Our journey through learning steps is aimed at catching those beautiful glimpses of the most sublime things of life which gives a great meaning to our existence. Before we embark on such a journey we need to examine what is our profile and what makes us competent to take up a challenge of that kind?

Friends, we are leaders in such a journey. But the term leader is most often misunderstood or misinterpreted. What makes one a leader?

A leader should have an intellectual profile, an operational profile and a personal profile. He should be radiant and radiate energy to his team-mates. His body language should be magnetic, inspiring and impressive. The team mates should look forward to his physical presence to draw energy from his presence.

Think for a moment:

  • How do you present yourself?

  • Do you store the required energy to radiate it to your team-mates?

  • How do you inspire your colleagues?

  • What is the unique feature in you that attracts others?

  • How do you think you can evolve yourself as a leader?

You may not have tailor made answers. Possibly, you may find it difficult to seek answers to some of these questions. But it is time that you start thinking, because I believe, the moment you start introspecting, the answers will knock at the doorsteps of your thoughts.

Keep thinking!
